Miranda Stork's Vigilante of Shadows Releases TODAY!

Hello my fellow vixens! I'm thrilled to be a part of a very special celebration today. It's release day for my friend and fellow author Miranda Stork. Vigilante of Shadows is the first book in her Scarlet Rain novel series and it promises to be one thrilling read! The action begins fast and hard with a murder, an immortal murderer, and a bright young police officer caught in the action. Oh, and shadowpeople and a demon. Did I not mention those? Vigilante of Shadows sets the series off on a path that will be humorous  horrifying, and just a little bit steamy. A path where this time…the whole of humanity hangs in the balance.

Sounds exciting doesn't it?

Today you're in for a treat. My alter ego, Lia Michaels has also agreed to host Miranda on her blog today, Here at Sassy Vixen we'll put together our usual "Thursday Thirteen" sort of post to get your engines revved up a bit. Then you have to travel to The House of Taboo where a very special guest will read Miranda's excerpt. It took some work and calling in a few favors, but Lia was able to get this special guest to stop in today in between his own media blitz promoting his latest movie. Intrigued? Read on sassy ones!

Aodhan clutched uselessly at his head, groaning. He knew it was useless, because the voice was not inside his head. It followed him, skimming across buildings and land. It had followed him since he was sixteen, and it still followed him today, like a memory too horrific to be forgotten…

Aodhan is a shadow-demon, hardened and cold after years of being alone, after his love, his Entwined, was cruelly taken away from him. He has closed his heart to the world, and now spends his life ridding the world of men like those who took his beloved away, an immortal hit-man…

Arianwen Harris is a young DCI, working for York City Police. When a known criminal is found viciously killed, she finds herself trailing a hit-man who has seemed to escape clutches again and again…but she begins to find herself drawn to his dark charms and roguish good looks…

As their two worlds collide, Aodhan and Arianwen find themselves coming together to escape a far greater enemy, one that threatens to create a world far worse than the one they live in. As they battle to hold back the oncoming forces, fate has another plan; one to draw them together and heal their broken pasts together…

Thursday Thirteen Teaser

He paced along speedily, hands shoved deep in the pockets of his jeans. The sounds of the night surrounded him--distant cat song, the steady hum of far-off cars, the soft sound of wind whistling underneath people’s windows. He loved being out at night, not because it was a time when his ‘kind’ were more active, but simply because it was so much quieter than the day. The sounds of people rushing around disappeared, and left a peaceful calm with the soothing darkness.

Of course, there were the voices in his head, but that was another story.

He shrugged his shoulders up, cutting off the wind whistling around his neck. He wasn't particularly cold, but the noise was annoying when your ears were so sensitive that a pin dropping could sound like a two-ton weight.

Aodhan’s mind went back to the girl from the bar. He hadn't meant to be so brisk with her, but it was really best that no-one got that close. He… didn't do well with people any more. They always brought back memories of simpler times, of her. And besides that…he killed people. People who wouldn't die if they hadn't found out about them…

Aodhan was a demon.

Didn't I tell you this book was going to grab you right off? Well, keep your panties on. We still have a bit more to go through here before you head on over to The House of Taboo. You see, Miranda has a giveaway going on today too. Here's the Rafflecopter for you to get your entries. Good Luck!

About the Author

I was born in Guisborough, North Yorkshire in 1987 and have lived in various places around Britain, including Newcastle and Glasgow.
My writing is inspired by various writers, including the vivid characters of Charles Dickens, the imagination of Stephen King, and the Gothic imagery of Anne Rice.

My love of horror began at an early age, when I was only three or four. I could read proficiently at the age of three, and devoured fairy-stories, but I always had a bent towards the darker stories, such as the Brother's Grimm's tales...Red Riding Hood was always a firm favorite  although I always felt sorry for the wolf, despite him having tried to eat everyone!

#ThursdayThirteen with Author Kara Leigh Miller

Happy Thursday my sassy ones! I'm in the middle of my book tour but had to stop in to welcome a new author friend to Sassy Vixen. She found me through my Facebook ad and asked if she could be a guest here. Of course I said YES!

Today author Kara Leigh Miller has been kind enough to share the first thirteen lines of her book Love by Number (The Aurora Island Resort #1). Enjoy! ~The Vixen

Two years ago, Ashleigh Malone had her heart ripped out by her then boyfriend, Mark.  He stole all of her money, left her in debt, and slept with her best friend.  Thanks to him, she lost her house, her job, and her dreams of opening her own resort. He destroyed her ability to trust anyone--especially men. She did the only thing she could--she took a job as the manager of a growing, luxury, private island resort in Hawaii. Far away from Mark and the pain he caused, Ashleigh throws herself into her job and after two years she finally feels normal again. For her, life is good. Until she meets Ryan Blake. In a matter of days he manages to turn her world upside down. Ashleigh reminds herself that she has sworn off men and no matter how sexy Ryan is or how he lights her insides on fire, she can't get involved with him because he's her employee and the boss's son.

As a forensic accountant for the FBI, Ryan Blake was unfortunate enough to be the one stuck going to the Aurora Island Resort to determine who'd been stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars. To anyone else, being assigned a job on a tropical island would be a dream come true. But this tropical island happens to be owned by Richard Blake--Ryan's father--who is convinced that the resort manager is the one stealing. Ryan vows to get the job done as quickly as possible so he can go home. Until he meets Ashleigh Malone--the woman his father thinks is stealing. She's smart, sexy, and cold as hell towards him. Ryan now had two missions: prove to his father that Ashleigh isn't stealing and get her into his bed. Hopefully forever.

First Thirteen

What the hell had I been thinking? There was no way I could be both the manager and accountant for a growing luxury resort. Yet, every
time I thought about handing over the finances to someone else, I broke out in a cold sweat. Mark had done a number on me financially, and after two years I still wasn't over it. Unfortunately, it wasn't my call anymore.

The owner and my boss, Richard Blake, had decided to hire a professional accountant, and I’d all but begged him to let me hire Meghan MaCayan
—my best friend from college who ran her own successful accounting firm. It hadn't flown. I was told that it was a conflict of interest to have a friend working in the accounting department. I remembered laughing at him. Not my proudest moment, but the absurdity of his statement had shocked me. Letting a respectable accounting firm take over the finances was a conflict of interest, but allowing me--the resort manager—to handle the finances had been fine. I'd learned that the decision had been made yesterday.
